on outlook express you can block any email comming from a certain address. im sure you can do it to others also. it'll take a while to filter out all the junk but eventually you'll do it.
i have two email addresses one for good stuff and one i enter if i know im going to get a crap load of junk.

Rule number one is to never, ever, EVER click on the "Click here to be removed from our mailing list" link in a junk email. All that does is CONFIRM that they have guessed a valid address, which then gets sold to other spammers. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif Most spammers these days seem to use a different "from" address every day, so they're difficult to block. However, AOL seems to have done a pretty good job with figuring out how to filter the crap as I get very few junk emails since they started getting serious about blocking them. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Make sure you have the junk e-mail filter turned on. Tools>organize>junk e-mail There you can turn it on. Remeber tho that you can and will recieve the same junk mail from different addresses. I've been adding addresses for a while now and still get some but it's more under control. Also there is a test file that has the keywords used to do the filtering...can't remember the file name...but use the HELP button and do an index search for junk mail. Hope this helps!!! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

If you can find the option somewhere, try Bouncing the email back to them. That basically tells them the address isn't valid and they usually move on to some poor other schmuck! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I must be the minority then. I always do that and I hardly ever get the junk again.

I use a proggy called mailwasher. It downloads headers for you and you then can choose to a)download the message b) delete the message or c) blacklist the message. This is all done from your ISP's servers. Email never reaches your machine unless you want it to. When you blacklist a sender, it then bounces the message back to the sender. Junk email still can get through, but it is much more manageable.

Another thing I do is have several email accounts. One is strictly for business. Nobody gets it but business. No spam there. Another is for doing business on the net with reputable companies who supposedly don't give out your info. Pretty much spam free. I have a third for crap sites.

I' said it before and I'll say it again...

    YAHOO MAIL!!!

Their spam filter is great. I run and maintain a few websites and I'm sure I'm on plenty of lists but I only get 1 or 2 spams per day. They are always new to the filter and once I hit the spam button I never see them again. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Last I heard, there was a bill being passed to deal with all the spam. Hopefully it'll be like the "Do not call list" for telemaketers. Just sign up and say bye bye to the BS. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

For some reason I thought it had passed? Supposedly all those click here to be removed links are supposed to be legit now. I still don't trust em! :-)

When I get junk mail, I send them back 100 or so unsubscribe me emails. Every email get the same number, 100, sent back to them. Eventually they stop sending [darn] to me. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

I use Outlook at work and at home. The junk mail feature works pretty good except that I would recommend if you do use this feature, creating a subfolder of your inbox (or deleted items folder) called "junk" or something of that nature. When you set up your junk mail filter, tell it to move junk email to the "junk" folder. Outlook 98 and Outlook 2K have a "random delete" feature that will mark items as "junk mail" even tho they are from a legitimate sender. If you send all junk mail to this subfolder, you can check it before emptying it to make sure that there are no emails there that you actually want to keep.

Good call! There's a spam program (free by the way) that essentially does the same thing...moves the spam to a seperate folder so it can be read to determine if it is really spam. It is continuously learning what the user considers spam. I use it on my network at the work place and after the initial setup my users are raving about it. A little technical but not bad really! Spam Bayes

That's what Yahoo does. It already has a BULK folder just for that. And if it accidently sends an email you want to the bulk folder you can just hit the NOT SPAM button and the program learns... No problem... The longer you use it and train it the better it gets...
