I know I'd get pulled over if I drove around with this thing mounted on a truck. I want to put it on the big Crew Cab once it's driving again on 44's... think I could make some sort of cover for it that I could snap on when I drive on the road and get away with it?

It's only illegal if you turn it on...

I think it is only illegal if you use it, but I'm not sure.

So, I could drive around with it mounted...just so long as it's not on?

It seems like I heard from someone a while back I could get pulled over if a cop saw it on a rig at all...but I cant remember. I wonder if it varies from state to state.

You'd have to have a cover for it, at least in CA. I had one for awhile but was afraid that if I actually used it that I would get nailed. I looked into the laws in CA and it would have to be covered when you're on the road or in any public area.

emergency vehicles are the only ones allowed to show red or blue to the front.
red for emergency, red or blue for law enforcement.
search and rescue crews (volunteers) can run yellow bars, or red, but they can't show those to the front on public roads.

now, if the light bar says property of city pd, you'll probably get into trouble. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Depends on the state as to what colors you can run. You need to check your local laws.

I would cover it just to be shure, i think they could get you for impersonating police. I do know that in wa you can have lights other than white for headlights, yello for turn signals, fog lights, and clearance lights and red for tail lights.

Here in Wa. you can not have any blue lamps on the car at all.
The blue tinge head lamps you see are illegal. The line however is quite fuzzy.
i would get a cover. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I think they should be if there's red and/or blue in it. A woman got murdered last week in Ft. Collins, they think she pulled over for the murderer because he had blue/red lights behind the grill on a Ford Excursion.

some states differ. in some states it is illegal to have them mounted and not covered. some stated its just illegal to haev them on.

best way around this is get one with clear outer glass and put yellow bulbs in it. then when you want to go police change the bulbs or covers. or check with your local law folk

I know of alot of people from the town near our property that drive up the road past our place during the summers to party. Might be fun to roar into a field where they're camped at (and usually up to no good) with the lights flashing and a voice blaring over a PA speaker. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
