The red-top in my Blazer couldn't start it this morning. I think I bought it about 4 or 5 years ago. Does that sound about right or should I be mad that it's getting weak?

    Run it til it's done.

I've had them come back in 6 months or less and I've heard of them going up to 9 years. It honestly depends totally on the user, his maintenance, the state of charge it is kept in, etc.

Yep, a buddy of mine had one in his Land Cruiser for 9 years. The next one he bought lasted about 3 months. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif That one was replaced under warranty about a year ago and is doing OK so far.

Their warrenty is for 5 years so that is about the life of the battery. I've had some last longer, but others haven't. The last one was about 6 1/2 years when it died..

Current red top still going strong after 9 yrs and 3 different trucks all being daily driven. It even survived the alternator dying on my 82 'burb diesel and being driven 30 minutes home. My 2nd red top only lasted 1 month and one winch use and have yet to get it replaced on warranty.

The last paperwork on mine was a 72 month warrenty unless things have changed.....I missed it by 12 months in my first post and said it only had a 5 year warrenty.... First two free replacement and the following 48 pro-rated...

Your diesel acutally needs an alternator? Dont mind my ignorance, I thought once the glow plug was up and running , it really didnt matter.

In a sense, you're right, but what about the radio, headlights, etc?

So there ya go, you had the wipers going and headlights at bare minimum. Then there's the blower motor, radio, and all the other electrical stuff you may have been running.
