I've noticed that many that fill their profiles have "Systems Engineer" or "Computer Guy" or other computer related stuff. I think the cleanliness and neatness of computers is causing us some brain damage and the only way to snap out of it is by going outdoors to get dirty!

I'm a self-employed consultant and design and create databases in MS Access and SQL Server. I also troubleshoot and configure PITA Win computers.

Just how many of you guys are computer guys?

I design cable systems for a living (for now anyway) and yeah, I'm chained to a computer for 8 hrs/day! [IMG] Oh well, the only plus is that I can frequently check this board to see what's new![IMG]

I put system engineer cause there aint enough room to put MCSE, Cisco CCNA, Citrix CCA, network designer installer troubleshooter on there, heh.

  4. I do S/W development using Rose and Java. Mostly applet/servlet stuff right now. I do some consulting on the side, mostly MS Access/Excel, Java, web applications.

Brian's right, it does give a great opp for checking the boards!

...does it count if you are a Civil Engineering type and know how to do the computer geek stuff? They ALWAYS call me when the IS guy is out of the office!!

Hell - I used to wrench on my beat up old cars and motorcycles - now I have new ones and they don't break - except for the '78K5! And it keeps me broke!

I work for Lockheed Martin. I turn wrenches on helicopters all day. They have a FCS Computer (Flight Control System), but it's non-interactive and I never have to touch it. Does that count? heh

Freelance web development. It's doing so wel that I'm getting a T1 in the house next month. I build sites the RIGHT WAY for small to medium sized busineses (and I'm still hoping to convince that locak chevy dealer...) using mainly MIVAscript, javascript, and Perl. I also have a couple personal money making sites on the side.

    What kind of helicopters?

What kind of birds do you work on? I work at an army aviation depot, Kiowa Warriors are my specialty though.

I spent about five years working various positions at a gym but invariably all the computer questions came to me, I'm also about a year into an AA in Computer Information Systems, not sure where I'm headed once I get it though. I've got about a years worth of Visual Basic under my belt so that might be where I go but I'm also looking at java/unix/sql.

Systems Analyst... AKA: Jack of All Trades...

Design and implement "systems" for the electric
cooperative I work for. Every day is different
and that's what keeps it interesting. One day
training, the next database design, then the
following day putting a new switch in place to
expand the network. As of late, lots of coding
to create custom applications for end users. I
don't "make the big bucks" but it's a good job
and keeps us buying toyz. I want to emphasize
that I love the area I live in... In a Boston,
Seattle, or LA I'd sure make a lot more money
but I have a comfort level here that I'd be
hard pressed to meet in one of the big cities.

Keep those priorities in line! Hunting &
fishing R mine and I'm gonna stick with 'em
til' I'm too old to do 'em!

I am one of the computer & network specialists at the International Association of Fire Fighters in Washington DC. Currently converting from a MAC system to all Win2000. We have so many Tahoes and Blazers in the parking garage it isn't even funny.

I'm offically a Mechanical Engineer that is waiting to take the PE exam...and now I work for an internet/telephone/cable group of companies...sure, I do TCP/IP and all that Cisco jazz...cable stuff too...and somehow Standby Generators, Power Systems, and Air Conditioning get thrown my way too...I like to say at work that I play with "things that can easily kill you"..well, I guess if you dropped a computer from the second or third floor of a building it could kill you :)
Heck, for three years I built Hybrid Electric Vehicles while in school...
My only problem now is the lack of time to put my blazer together...lots of parts on the floor...but not lots of time!
