I believe 379 is correct, definately not a big block, look at a bigblock real good once and you'll never miss a big block again. The block hince big is really BIG!

Big enough for my taste. Gives me room to crawl under the hood if I get cold...LOL.

    6.2L a big block? Ain't it a diesel?

Now the 6.6L is another matter ... that's the 400ci smallblock. The 383ci might work out to be ~6.3L... this a gas engine you're thinking of / looking at?

    Weird. Chevy?

Anyway, it's around 380ci, yeah. Prolly has the siamesed cylinders; I *think* the 383's are mostly that way and I'm pretty sure ALL SB400's are like that.

(There was a 396 big block, I think...)

Big block/small block really has little to do with the cubic inch displacement. It has to do with the family of engines yours came from. 262-265-267-283-305-307-327-350-400 are Chevy's SMALL blocks. On the outside, they all look exactly the same. The typically seen big blocks are going to be 396-402-427-454. Same deal here, outside, all the same.

A 383 Chevy is a 350 Chevy, stroked to 3.75 or 3.8 inches. It does not have siamesed cylinders. Only the 400 small block Chevy does (and all of the 400s DO have siamesed cylinders). A 383 is nothing more than a 350 with a different rotating assembly.

My friend has a 400M in his Ford and he calls it a, "Big block". In my opinion, a 400M is NOT a big block. I think the big block Fords are the 460 family of engines. The 400M shares bellhousing pattern with the 460 though. Normally we dont think of the 351C or 351M or 400M when we talk about a small block Ford, usually you're referring to a 289-302-351W if you're talking about a small ford or a 429-460 if you're talking about a big Ford.

I could go on for a while but I'm thinking that is basically what you wanted to know.
