I just tore apart two GM dana 44 front axles and found different diameter axles...??? Both rear ends have disc brakes, one is from like an '83 blazer and other I do not know of year but it's in a stepside. The axles were the same size where the bearings run but the stepside one was noticabley skinnier throughout the middle of the shaft. Both are six lug axles. What's the secret here, are they just different versions? Also, can I swap the "meaty" ones into the other rearend? pretty sure they were same spline, though I didn not count (doh!). Thanks in advanced. /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif

If the one from the "83" is original it is not a D44, it would be a 10 bolt 28 spline axle. The other unknown axle may be a D44 which is 30 spline. If you do have a 10 bolt and a D44 then the inner axles will not interchange but the outers will.
