how many of you with a 4 inch wish you\'d gone 6 inch?

well i'm at the great debate here. i know a 4 inch is cheap and easy but i'll prolly need a 6 inch later for bigger tires and stuff. i'll need x-over steering for the 6 inch though.

would 6 and 33's look super goof or not? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
    what about 6 and 35's?
    i know 6 and 38 looks cool.
it's the 6 and 42's i want "down the road" that bother me. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Well i think 6" lift and 35s would look good, one of my buddies has a k-5 whith 7" and 35s and it looks great (just like a scaled up 4" and 33s). I realy dont think 33s on a 6" would look that great.

6 and 42's bother you, heck thats exactly what I want, like I said break out the sawzall, 6" and 33's look like a roller skate, go with the 6" for sure, fit up some 35's and later purchase some 40's or 42's and a pack of blades /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif if you get 4" lift buy some warrior shackles and ext brake lines /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif

    whoops!

with 42's, either i put the 6 inch on now or when i get the 42's.

    it's looking like 6 inch and 35's. /forums/images/graemlins/burb.gif

edited to add: i saw a pickup at Tim Hortons with a 6 inch and 31's or 33's and it looks pretty silly. i think they were 31's, cause they looked TINY under that truck.
on the other hand, just the other day (friday) i saw a pickup with a 4 inch and 33 bfg mt's and it looked SWEET! /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif

you're saying my burb on 6 inch and 35's would look the same proportainatly (sp) but just bigger overall?

    COOL! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/burb.gif

Re: how many of you with a 4 inch wish you\'d gone 6 inch?

if you get 35's and are looking for in expensive ones look into general grabber m/t's, super cheap quality tire, otherwise go with 36x12.50's tsl super swampers, about the same as bfg 35's I paid 750.00$ for mine at 4 wheel parts /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif also they will clear I have 4" springs and the clear, they do rub off roading though /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Dont worry about what looks cool. Do what is needed to get what you want out of the sport and be safe at the same time. Other than that, what else can be said?

Re: how many of you with a 4 inch wish you\'d gone 6 inch?

    Well said
I bought a set of 8" springs a year ago.
hemed and hawed over what to do in the mean time.
I was gonna sell em and do a 4" 39.5 combo.
After seeing the 8" lift thread.. back to the original plan.
    8" lift and 42's
Oh and a 461 BBC under the hood.
That plan has never changed, just which BBC to use in the K5, the 468 or 461 decisions, decisions LOL.
Have a 350 to build now too. I'll just do a budget rebuild on it and use it as a mule till the plant is done.
Sounds like a plan to me anyway /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You might as well just do the 6" now so you dont have to worry abot it in the future. I went with a 4" at first with 33's and thought thats all I would ever want. I ended up going to the 6" and 39.5's after a while anyway.

I went with a 6" susp and wish I would have gone with a 4" and fender trimming. I run 38's and its got quite a high center of gravity.

Well not what you asked for but I will be the other side of the coin. I went 4" & 35s and like it. When I build a bigger truck it will be bigger all around. I'm trying to keep it sort of on the light/small side.

Here's 6" lift and stock tires. Yes, looks goofy, but it's still under construction. [IMG]

Re: how many of you with a 4 inch wish you\'d gone 6 inch?

When I bought my 1980 K10, it had a 4" lift of unknown brand on it. I added a 3" body lift and I had 35" BFG Mud T/A's on it. It looked great.

After a little "underwater" accidental fourwheeling in ice covered water, I found two broken leaves on one side, one in the other.

I knew I planned on going bigger with every component on the truck sooner or later, so I went with a 6" BDS lift kit. I'm happy with it, but I do plan on a shackle reversal and 2.5" BDS springs in the rear. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: how many of you with a 4 inch wish you\'d gone 6 inch?

I initially went 4" also, mainly cause I thought that would keep driveshaft issues out, wrong. With my Rockwell transfer case I ended up having to lengthen the front driveshaft and then once it was lengthened I found out I needed a cv joint too! Without a doubt I would have gone with a 6" lift initially if I had known I was gonna have to mess with the driveshaft either way.

Okay, cosmetically, another thing that bugged me was with my 4" lift and 35"s, some of the new heavy duty trucks were just about as tall as I was - grrrr, can't have that!

    Ian,

Here's an idea I haven't seen mentioned yet in the replies:

    Do a 4" lift NOW....and a 2" body lift LATER.

That way you get a soft spring, and it "looks" right for the smaller 33's or whatever you run now.....then when the tires start getting BIG, put the body lift in there and get more clearance....not just for the tires, but for the valve covers, distributor, transfer case "clocking", raising the gas tank (for clearance), etc.

a 4" + 2" lift is what's on mine now with 38's....check my gallery if you want an idea of how it looks!!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
