Yep, I'm still on the 14 bolt FF subject. Found one at the wrecking yard. Looks pretty rusty but owner says it'll work. He wants $500 plus exchange of my 12 bolt. Is he in the right ball-park? I know boyce has a rebuilt unit with no exchange for $1050 plus gears. HMMM

    200.-300. tops
I got mine from a Chevy bone yard, he wanted 350. or 250. plus my blown apart 10 bolt rear (I would have paid him to get it out of my garage)
Unless someone has gone through it, 500. is to much for a rusty 14 bolt.

Anybody in Michigan with a 14FF for $150? Have truck, will travel. Really, though, everyone on this board tells me that I can get one for a 200-300 "Anywhere". I have come to the conclusion that it is not anywhere near me. I have called all over this county and the next one and noone even talks about anything less than $700. Most give a flat rate of $1000 for a 1-ton axle in good shape. Is it better to just look around in the boonies for people with an broken 3/4 ton behind their house?

Actually in So Cal. I picked up my 14 Bolt FF for $115 at the local boneyard. It was in running shape, even still I replaced the bearings and seals for my own peace of mind. I also installed a Detroit in it as well.

The 14 bolt FF under the wife's 90 Sub has been under 4 different trucks in its life (it's a 1977 vintage 14B). I believe it has about 350,000 miles on it. Nothing but brakes has ever been done to it.

I paid 650 for the set for my d44 and 14bolt w/4.10 and that was probably 300 too much. Check with private parties, or people parting out their trucks.

Is there a good place to look for this stuff online besides ebay? I have tried some of these on-line junkyard "searches", but they really do not have enough access to inventories to be that useful yet. Someday, most junkyards will have the bulk of thier inventory available to online search engines, but today is not that day and with the slim profit margins of boneyards, it may not be for a while yet.
