    How much stall, y\'all?

Got my shortbox really comming around now I wanna blow some cash on a hotter converter.

    1983 C15 Shortbox
    -3.73 gears w/ 235/75/r15 tires (28.8" tall)
-355 with vortec heads, performer intake, and 600 vac secondary Holley
    -9.3:1 compression
    -210/218 .447/.462 111 LSA (comp rated at 1,000-5,200rpm)

All of this hooked up to a TH-700R4.

What should I get? I drive the thing everyday and do alot of "stoplight" drag racing, lol. Pretty much try to bully anything with a big exhaust tip. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Problem is though that there's no tremendous launch and only gets real mean when its rolling. So ya know, daily driven performance.

I can get B&M stuff for cheap at work. Looking at either the holeshot 2000 (1,900-2,100 stall) or the 2400 (2,300-2,500 stall). I can get TCI too, but havent looked into that too much.

Im running a 2600 in mine. Jegs told me to get a 3000 but that was too far for me. I wish I had gone 3000 now, but all will be better w/ better gears. Its all about when your cam comes in. If it starts pulling at 3000 then thats what you want to flash up to where its pulling. Mine comes in around 3000-3200, and starts pulling good at about 4500, at 6000 its REALLY pulling hard to what ever I have the sack to take it to. Ive gone 7800 and it never let down.

ANYHOW, call Jegs and talk to them, give them the info you posted, thats what theyll ask and they can recommend a converter for you. Ill tell you now they will say in the 2500-3000 range.

I think that Hole Shot 2000 will work just great with the cam you have. Thats a pretty mild cam. So a 2000 RPM stall speed should put you right in the best part of the torque curve

Looking at the duration I am gonna say he'll need higher than a 2000.

Lol, yeah its a tough call. I called B&M looking for some governor and servo stuff and he recommended a 2,400 RPM holehost. Just dorking around with Engine Analyzer here, this engine installed, with accessories, under SAE conditions (77 degrees), would make 281 lb/ft of torque at 2,000 and 309 lb/ft at 2,400. So, about 28 lb/ft difference.

B&M rates their converters with an engine making 230 lb/ft at 2,500rpm. So more torque at that speed means higher stall. Plus I've got stock tires and good gears which means the converter will be less loaded.

God, see how freakin confusing this gets. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
