    An 86 has probably got a 700r4. If it has overdrive you have a 700. Mine took about 11 qts with the torque convertor and all.

    Why do you want to know? If it's because you're going to service it, you'll only need about five quarts because a regular service just changes out the fluid in the pan. The rest of it hides in the torque convertor.
