How to adjust the vacuume assist switch at the brake pedal?

    How do i correctly adjust the vacuume assist switch at the brake pedal on my 87 K5...How do I know when it is adjusted correctly? Or does it really matter? Thanks

    Unless GM called it something odd, there is no vacuum assist switch. There coul dbe one for cruise control (not sure if the electric setups like yours would still have it) and the rest would all be brake and torque converter stuff.

    All you do to adjust those is wiggle them in or out so everything works when it should, as the pedal is depressed, or back in the resting position, if that makes sense. Basically, the switches there control how far the brake pedal is pushed before the brake lights come on, how far the pedal is pushed to unlock the torque converter, and how far the pedal needs pushed to disengage the cruise. IMO all of these should be immediate.

    Ahhh...not it makes sense...thats Dorian...I saw a vacumme line attaced to the one switch and automatically ASSUMED that it was a switch for the vacuume assist...Then the other one is the brike lights, right? cool man...thanks...

    That vacuum swtich is just there to dump vacuum from the cruise control vacuum motor. It's to make certain that the cruise disengages the throttle when you hit the brakes. /forums/images/icons/cool.gif
