Want to double check to see if I have 28 or 30 count with out tearing them apart. Anyone know the codes and their location?

Look for one from 89-91. They are supose to be 30 spline. There is no way to know without pulling the axle.

I don't recall if the axle tube stampings indicate year, but they may have a date stamp as well. The codes seemed to change every year (or fairly often) so that might narrow it down. (rear axle) should be on passenger side tube, facing towards the front of the truck, about halfway between the differential and the tire

Sounds like a good time to change your rear end fluid. Pulling the axles really isn't that hard. First time I did it, it took maybe 15-20 to figure out how to do it and have them out. Its nice to know how to do it anyway.
