I am thinking about a 383, using the 74 cc heads I have right now. These heads have 2.02 intake valves and 1.94 exhaust valves. Will this valve setup act wierd or contradict a torque motor setup?

Will work for parts, beer and sex.

    2.02/1.94 ?? Hmm I haven't seen that combo before??
useally the exhaust is 1.60 not 1.94, but hey I could be wrong!!??

My idea of a good motor for a 4x4 would be a power ban from idel to 5000 rpm. the 2.02 intake valve is more for 1500 to 6500 rpm. Although you still could use that head on a 383 and it most likely would be fine.

  3. The valve size also depends on the runner volume. He means 1.60's I'ld say, there's more to high rpm's than valve size alone.
The valve size you need depends on motor size,Vs's came profile,Vs's runner volume.

I don't mean 1.60 for the exhuast side. I was told when I got the heads that the exhuast was 1.94. He could be wrong. I dont know what they are. I have noticed that I ahve not seen that size on any of the web sites selling new performance heads, but thats what I was told.
But to tell you the truth, my main concern is whether or not my 90 TBI intake amni will bolt up to these heads. I dont have the casting numbers handy, but I know they are 74 cc heads and I think the casting numbers start with 399. So they are pretty old. Im not sure if they are even worth messing with being that old.

  5. Brandon,a 1.94 ext. valve is big for a high rpm big block. If your refering to the heads in your garadge they look like 1.94 intake 1.50 ext.Next time I come down I'll biring a calib. and we'll measure them.

In my catalog I show that a stock 350 with a carb from 81-90 had a 1.50" exhaust valve and a 1.940" intake valve. But with hi-po that changes the sizes. For a 350 1967-80 a performer exhaust valve is 1.60" and the intake performer valve is 2.02". That is in the latest Clevite catalog for 2001.

You all think that these 1971 heads will hook up with my 1990 intake manifold???
That is my main question at this time.
