    pretty cool
chuck Yeager tested ground effect before his supersonic flight while he was at Edwards. He went up in a P-39 and flew 10 feet off the ground and shoved the stick forward, and nothing happened. He did this cause he had heard the engineers talking about control ineffectiveness when you flew close to the ground. just a theory, and he went up and proved it. Like it was no big deal..

one of the greatest pilots of all time.

Funny story. In the desert when aircrews would write up some BS problem, we'd ask them "Did Chuck Yeager need it?" They didn't think it was too funny.

I just bought the move "The Right Stuff" and rewatched it for the first time in a loooong time. If are a Chuck Yeager/early astronaut fan and you have never seen the movie, you should see it :waytogo:
