stressful job. THey do the hiring and firing stuff for a company. They are the ones who have to KNOW all the discrimination laws, all the hiring practices. They also do the health care, retirement plans, and other similar programs for the company. Its not an easy job, but you are right they can make decent money. Thats what my Mom does for a living. She makes in the area of what you quoted but she works her tail off. Shes a workaholic so it is alright for her. She was lucky and the person who gave her the job believed in her and gave her the job with no formal HR training. Since then she has a lot of time in school earning a associate degree in HR. I think she likes her job, I know I could never do it.

I told you what I know from observing her, if you want I can talk to her about it and get some more detailed stuff.

"if you love what you do for a living, you will never work a day in your life"

    What he said.

But keep in mind first and foremost they are the people that have to listen to all of the gripes, complainers and crybabys at any given business.

There's no way I have the patience for something like that. I ran a pretty large company when I lived in Denver and my saving grace was when someone came into my office with that "someone shot my puppy" look, I could send 'em straight to HR and get 'em of my hair.

Around here they make more like 80-90k a year. My wife is one level below an HR manager, called an HR generalist. Below that is an HR specialist, below that is an HR administrator. You typically have to go though all the levels before you hit manager, my wife has been in it for 6 years or so and hopefully will be a manager pretty soon.

They get to deal with all the people-related aspects of the company, ideally they should be the people's representatives with upper management; these days it's more like management uses HR to find new and creative (but still legal) ways to screw the employees.
