I would highly suggest following the tech article on CK5 if your going to weld your 14FF together. I welded mine a different way last year. I welded each spider gear to the cross pin. It has held up to alot of abuse. It finally let go with a big bang on my way to work this morning. Maybe it was a little to much gas coming from a stop sign and turning a corner who knows. The point is it let go and after taking the cover off it wasn't pretty. I'll find out more this week when I get a chance to take it all apart.

You may have weakened the cross pin by welding to it...

Did the ring and pinion survive the carnage?

Don't know yet. I just pulled the cover at lunch today and saw lots of metal pieces on my magnet. I will pull the carrier and check everything out this week sometime. If I'm lucky the metal is from the welds and I can still save all the parts. If not I'll be heading to the junkyard this weekend to get another set of spider gears and a crosspin. Either way I'll weld up each spider gear like Trusty did and try it again !!!!!!!!

At least all the 'junk' is enclosed inside the carrier. You might be OK...

breakage due to abuse is sweet. Due to neglect or doing something wrong just sucks. Sorry about that man.
