for years i've wanted to see where the willamette river empties into the columbia river. well, today i went up there and checked it out. it was freaking awesome. i gotta go back - for those of you who know the area, i've been to sauvie island quite a few times and love it, and this was quite similar. i would say i enjoy both equally. it's cool to go swimming 100ft from an enormous freight ship or barge. :D anyway, here's some pics.

so here's a pic of my wife as we stopped to get some coffee on our way up there. by the way, if you ever get the chance to drink stumptown coffee, it will change your life... :D

here's me standing in the mouth of the willamette with the columbia on the other side of those wooden (are they called piers?).

we decided to go swimming, but my lady didn't have a swimsuit. she was just going to go swimming in her underwear, but then she got the great idea to swim in my underwear, which wasn't quite as exciting... :doah:

the following pics are just cool things i saw as i walked down the shore of the willamette.

that's my kickass beltbuckle dude, get off my back! :wink1: i dig cool belts/buckles. and yeah, i as looking for the word piling - that's better. i knew it wasn't a pier... but couldn't think of the smaller word. i think a jetty is more like a pier too, but jettys arent usually used to dock boats like a pier might. jetties go out into the ocean to break waves so boats can leave a bay... right?
