I had my camera with me the last time I went into a cave, so I snapped a few pics. These caves are a bunch of underground warehouses and the size of a small town. Some of the larger caves even have a Post Office and restaraunts in them.

One pic is the cave entrance where I drive in, then I was meeting a car while driving to my dock, and the last pics is the truck backed into the dock. The pics are dark and the quality really sucks... but I was in a cave, what do you expect?

Ya, it's kinda freaky at first... but it's aight after a while. There's not much room to back into the docks, and I have to constantly watch the top of the trailer if it gets near any of the pillars so it doesn't hit.

Independence, Missouri. It's near Kansas City. There are many caves in this area used for underground storage because it's cheaper to rent than above ground warehouses. Most truck drivers don't like the caves because of the tight turns and it's easy to get lost...

Yep, there are 3 caves I go in near KC. One of them is in Lees Summit, go south of I-70 on Lees Summit Road for aboot 6 or 7 miles. The other two are in Independece off of 291.

I will be at the cave that is up 291 and off to the left tomorrow morning (10-05-06) at aboot 8 AM, then I have to go up to St. Joe to get my backhaul.

...and in the US Mint in Philidelphia. I used to go there twice a week! It's real tight inside and the only way to back up is blindside :doah:

That's like some secret place for bad guys to make exchanges that usually end up going wrong in movies...

I can appreciate what it must feel like in there. I had a construction site delivery about a month ago to a gargantuan warehouse that had dock plates, but they were not usable yet. I found the super and he said "Follow me." I ended up driving up a forklift-type ramp that was slightly wider than my tractor, through a doorway that had about 3" on either side of my mirrors, then motoring around inside this building. It was wierd. Put me in an apartment complex or one of those blind side only docks whose hole is a couple inches wider than your tethered swing doors and I wouldn't think much of it, but I was a bit nervous just knowing if one of those flimsy support columns come down bad things will happen, but there it would have only been roof panels and such, not all of the earth above.

You mention easy to get lost. How vast are these cave systems?? Are they abandoned mines??

I had a driver load up there one day. I thought he was b.s.'en about the cave part. Definetely nothing like that down here in Texas.

That's what I'm thinking they are, a bunch of abandoned mines that have been renovated and used for something else.

Some were salt and I think limestone.....Hutchinson Kansas is a salt mine. Supposedly the movie studios store the masters of many classic films in one there.
