that sounds good to me. i put 35's on a little while ago, and i am ready for a gear swap. my mileage and performance have gone down since the new tires, so it's definitely time to save for the goodies.

It took me about a day. Not counting part chasing. That took me another day. I took my time and checked everything twice.

You need, (some things I had already):

Magnetic Base, Dial Indicator, Shop Press (mine is 20 tons), bearing separtor, verneer (sp?) calipers, one mother of an impact gun (to crush the crush sleeve), Torque wrench, and some large (speciality impact sockets) I think I got it all

Plus all of the bearings and R&P install kit.

Also anything that one would need to remove the front brakes and associated parts.

I used a Sears 1/2" Drive. Click-type when you get to the preset torque.

No, I had an expert show me on one of my other trucks. He can do it by feel. He showed me what it is supposed to feel like. That one he put in has lasted 65,000 miles so far with my leadfoot.

yeah, I checked it with the marking compound, and it was perfect. Nothing like doing yourself...AND...having it work.

I crushed the crush sleeve with an impact gun until it "felt" right. I then put the assembled carrier into the housing. I shimmed until I got the proper backlash...(checked with a dial indicator), I then checked the wear pattern with the marking compound and it was in the correct pattern. I hope this clears up any confusion.

I wish someone would show me how to do it, that would be really cool. I need to learn. I'm sick of swapping the whole housing.

I'm sure you know already, but make sure to break the gears in properly.
