i realy did get shot at today at work. i was working on a frozen caliper slide in the caliper bracket. it was in the vise and i have the oxy/act wrench out and had the bracket just starting to glow red. i was .00025 sec away from getting vise grips to grab on to it and remove. then

    BANG!!!

i felt this pain in my chest/gut/rock hard 6pack. and next thing i know i was short of breath. :yikes: i looked down at my chest and no blood so that must be good. next i remove part of my shirt to check and i found this big red welt in my gut. upon further looking at welt i noticed it even scimed some of my skin off. plus it tore my shirt just a bit.

so long story short. never stand in the direct path if a possible flying hot object. heat+petrolium products+small space = big gas pressure=something will give way soon!!!

p.s. please no love mail from my body shot pic thanks. :haha:

I feel your pain. I to got "shot" on Saturday by two fragments of a cutting disc. Still hurts to touch.

Gotta love that "What the hell just happened?" thought process.

Reminds of one time when I was cranking away on a huge ratchet/socket and the thing slipped off and drove straight into my face. Hit me in the mouth and upper nose. Split my lip and gums and damn near knocked me out cold. I just sat there seeing stars and trying to figure out if I was still alive. I think I was loopy for about 5 min. and couldn't put a rationale thought together....(not that unusual, I know....)

From a paintball? Hell, I had both feet on the frame rail and was pulling as hard as I could. It was like getting hit in the face while standing there and having someone swing the big ratchet at my face as hard as they could without moving. We do a paintball type thing at work (http://www.simunition.com/) and proudly wearing the welts are a right of passage. Especially when you go up against a full auto M-16.......

You are lucky, I had the same thing happen. I was lucky the caliper pin was pointing up cause it went through the flourescent light above the bench and through the steel roof of the shop 12 feet above that. It got wedged in the hole in the roof so I know that it made the hole. It took about 10 minutes for me to figure out what happened after I checked my undies.

I had a similar experience. My bud and I were out in Nevada wheeling in the boonies when we came upon an old home site, or perhaps an old mining or resort business. Either way, the area was littered with old car parts, house foundations, partial structures, etc. I found this really old fridge. The kind with the big coils exposed on it. It was laying on its side with the back open and there was the compressor bottle just begging for a 9mm round to be put through it. I stepped back about 30 ft. and popped off a round at it from a Taurus 9mm I was packing. I was shooting cheap wadcutter type rounds. I hit the bottle and went up to see the damage. The lead wadcutter just put a dent in the bottle. So, I backed up and put another round in the same spot. I guess I was pretty accurate because the round hit the exact same dent. The round fragmented and came ricocheting back my direction. A small piece about the size of my pinky nail, and very thin hit me in the face.

My buddy was watching from about 30 yards away. He says he sees me take aim, fire, and then my head snaps back and blood starts running down my face. He thought for sure I was done for and he was going to be hauling the body back to a town. Fortunately the piece hit me in the cheek, went under the skin, and popped back out about an inch away. It sure woke me up though.....

Those can freakin hurt...along with the stone on the flywheel turning machine. We've got some folks at work that play "socket roulette". Put a wobble socket on the end of an extension on an impact and pull it wide open....see who does and doesn't get hit.:haha: I work with tards.
