Anyone ever had this stupid thing install itself knows what I mean... I run a adware detector everyday to clean spyware off my computer. So I run it today and Gator pops up!/forums/images/icons/mad.gif So I try to clear it out, no go... I have tried all the ways and things I know of to get this crud off my computer and it keeps saying stuff like cannot delete it it's being used by another person or program.... I am not using this stuff argh!! So anyone have any tricks to getting it gone? It's worse then a virus I swear... I cannot get rid of it! Thanks! /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

No sooner then I posted this then my friend told me to upgrade my ad ware on this site http://www.lavasoft.nu to Ad-Ware 5.0 Release 5.82. I got it and ran it and hd 37 things in my system! /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif I recommend anyone who doesn't have this to get it... cuz I had all that and had no clue because my older version couldn't detect it!

What's to worry about spyware ??? I'm not worried if someone can see what I'm looking up on the web.

I took a look at the Lavasoft site, and I'm pretty sure that I have spyware on my system. I got a little bit overwhelmed when I read the instructions on how to use the Ad-Aware software. I'm not that much of a computer whiz and it doesn't sound that user-friendly......

Can somebody tell me if Ad-Aware is easy to use?

That's good to hear. Have you read the instruction page for Ad-Aware? It sure sounds confusing.....but I'm stupid so maybe that's why!!! /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

It's way easy to use... just download and install. Then you open it up and click scan system... it scans, shows you the spyware and you click it and then it goes byebye... way easy! /forums/images/icons/cool.gif

Well they can see what you are looking at and then send you BS emails and spam you (I got over 50 emails from Gator related things they offer! /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif ) ... then once you get one spyware thing in your system you are free to get whatever else they come up with... it's not a virus for say like a traditonal one.... but the Gator thing really f'ed me up... it would lock me up and then when I was buying something today it had the order form pre filled out for me!! If that doesn't bug you that a program like this has your name, addy and phone number stored in it without you wanting it and installing on it's own because a stupid website you clicked happened to be linked with it doesn't bug then you are fine. I personally don't care if anyone knows where I go on the web, I don't surf anything like porn sites... but it bugs me when they have my personal info and I didn't ok it... /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

Im going to install this program, Im just hoping it doesnt mess with my Virus protector?

The more you unsubscribe the more you get... all those do is add you email into more mailing lists... just block those email domains out of your system or the email addys themselves if you don't want to block out whole domains...

BTW I have anti virus software and it doesn't affect it at all... /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Delete them all... you won't miss them and it won't affect anything (it might make yer puter run faster and get rid of some spam though). All this does it detect spyware nothing else... and you don't need that crud... /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

Just yesterday I spent most of the day getting rid of that damn Gator thing, what a pain! It had me screwed up to the point that everytime I opened IE it took like 25 seconds to open the first page, it would just lock in the middle of opening. It also ate up tons of resources (memory). I couldn't have my eamil open and goto a website at the same time 'cause I was running out of memory and I have 192Meg of ram! I wish someone would send them an email bomb! haha. /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif

I don't know what Gator Spyware is, but I don't understand why you guys are running processes that you don't know about.
I run Win 2000 Pro and logged in as admin I can stop all processes even hidden ones. No extraneous crap like 95/98.

If you are surfing the net shopping or what have you and click on a link that someone has decided to attach Gator too (or something like it) it can attach to your system and you don't even know it. It won't detect as a virus since it's not one. It's spyware! There's lots of companies who slide stuff in here and there we don't know about. I'm betting even you would have it if you ran a check... cuz Gator did not show up in Windows Task Manager when it was running... so you can't stop it like that.... you have to clear it out totally which is hard to do because it tends to hide in several areas and you have to delete it all at once not one by one or else it blocks you from getting it gone... fun stuff I tell ya!! /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif
