You've most likey got more flex than shock, in other words the axle is limited in droop by the resistance of the shock at full travel...causing metal fatigue at the frame...or you'll just pull a shock apart...get a longer shock or check at full droop and put a (shudder) a strap to (shudder) limit the droop. Good luck

Still a very pissed-off

Your shocks might be bottoming out. Make sure they aren't too long or install longer bump stops if nessasary.

I busted a driver's side shock due to the *&*%^$%$ design of the mounts, busted the mounts too. Here's the problem with the mounts and the design. To get the right shock for compressed length, it comes up about 3 inches too short. So when you are at full droop, something's got to give and that's the shocks and mounts. Put on some limiting straps to prevent this, or redo the shock mounts so you can get more out of the shock.

take the shocks loose. Get the truck FULLY flexed. Measure the compressed and extended. Hit Autozone and have them pull out the shock travel guides. Find a shock that most closely fits your need. Be 1/2-34 SHORT. Bottoming the the shock on compression is what breaks mounts. The whole weight of the truck comes down on the shock. Under droop is not a problem. You will loose some droop but you will quite breaking stuff. If your going to fix the front with the FOrd towers now is the time to do it. The rear the stock parking brake cables will limit the down travel if you have the old style set up from 80 down.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this. I know for a fact that my mounts busted due to the shocks being too short. The driver's side bolt is bent down due to this. The compression length is fine, but where the problem is coming in at is the length of shocks. Because of the crack smoking engineers who designed the mounts, it's impossible to get a shock that will fit perfectly. A shock for a stock K5 is has about an inch of leeway for compression, but is about 3 inches too short for full droop.

I think those mounts are a bad design, so that is another reason to go with the ford towers. More flex and a stronger mount. Can't beat that!
I had a 2 wheel drive that kept breaking the top mounts. It wallered a hole out, so I put a big ol bolt thru it and heavy dutied the crap outta it and didn't break it again. But this time, I'm gonna put the ford towers on before I mess up the shock mounts on my blazer.

Never had a problem with either of my K5's. Shocks limit down travel on all wheels. It ramps 752 on a 25 degree ramp. Suposidly it ramped 857 on 23 at Dixie run but I don't think the guy doing the figuring did it right.
The fronts are always a problem Just not enough shock lenght especialy if your flexy. That's why I'm not higher flex than I am.
HAY what's the part number on those towers?
