Let me explain the sound. You know what it sounds like sometimes when you are removing tight lug nuts? That kinda higher pitched grinding noise?
Well, I noticed today that when I am turning with a little throttle I started hearing this noise and some popping. But while driving straight no noise at all. I have a new Auburn Limited Slip and new 4.10 Richmond Gears. I had set the gears up myself...But before you jusmp on me I went and had the rear end checked out by a pro and they reset all the bearing preloads and checked the patterns and said everything looks good.
Any ideas? I can take the cover off yet, Im at work so I'll have to wait till I get home---- if the damn thing makes it home.

Will work for beer, parts and tools.

Did y ou use the proper addative for the Auburn LSD if it requires it?(most clutched LSD's do)

Also, u-joints make freaky noises sometimes too.. Maybe your rear is shifting slighty and putting it in a bind or if your rear is shift, it may be making the noise also.

Yep, I added the LSD additive. And Im not saying that is not the U-joint under shifting conditions, but I had another guy here at work drive it around in a circle while I crawled behind it and had my face about 12 inches from the pumpkin and it damn sure sounded like it was coming from inside. Now I know the U-joint is just on the other side. But depending on what I find when I get home, I have a guy at Essentially Off Road that has a 14 SF that wants to trade me for a set of 2.02 1.50 chevy heads that I dont have any money in. SO I may just say F'it and swap. Then I'll be asking you all what I need for the swap.

Is there any play in the pinion?

14SF? I have one of those also.. Mine is an 8 lugger though. I have debated of whether or not to put it in, but I may just sell it...

I dont really care about the 8 lug. I was planning on just getting the 6 lug axles Mosier, but I think I will have get 6 lugs brake drums wont I? Man there is always something?
What kind of 8 lug front ends are there?

Will work for beer, parts and tools.

Yes you will need the 6 lug drums also... I believe Moser maybe able to fill and drill the drums as well as the axles.. I know they will fill and drill the axelshafts from 8 lug to 6 lug for $50... Not sure on the drums though..

You can get any of the following front axles in 8 lugs:

    Dana 60
    Dana 44
    Corp 10 bolt

    Sorry!

;) I haven't made up my mind yet, sorry.. Hopefully soon though... My 14SF has 4.10's also, but has a Gov-lok. Although my Gov-lok in my 10bolt held up to alot of abuse without breakage.....

Besides the gas would be cheaper than finding one here that I would have to rebuild the way I need it. I would just have to get me some Ephidrine, coffee adn many a cigarettes for the drive.

I am about 5 hours East of him(roughly).. Not sure though now since he moved, but he didn't move far from his old place...

He has been thinking about buying my 14SF, that is one reason I haven't been sure about swappin it in mine... Too bad I couldn't talk some of the drivers we deal with in hauling stuff to TN... We get a lot of loads to ship to Henderson, TN... South of Jackson and East of Memphis. Not sure how far it is from Nashville, although we get a few loads down there also, but not often.... I actually have a set of 4.56's for my front 44 that I want to swap in....................... Hmmm......
