the k5 i have purchased originally came with a 305. the guy i
bought the blazer from , said the previous owner put in a 1988 350. it has the quad carb system and all the v belts,
so i am assuming that all the stuff was switched. there is
no fuel pump on the block and it has an inline electric fuel
pump with a regulator. how do i find out for sure what i have
so i know what i am dealing with when i need to get parts
for it?. is there markings that i can go by to distinguish the
displacement along with what year it is? thanks

The casting number on the back of the block by the distributor is the best way to identify any GM engine. http://www.mortec.com correlates the numbers to what the engine is.

I think you can also tell a 305 from a 350 by the harmonic balancer - a 350 balancer is larger (I think) than on a 305... someone could have changed the balancer, though.
