Anyone know if there is a difference as to how well fluid circulates in a 700R4 whether it's in park or neutral?
Gotta let it cool down after plowing or towing or 5 minute burnouts or run's down the 1/4 mile. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

That's the preferred cooling method so I hear.

Flow is gonna be the same in park or neutral.

At least I add to the tech side of the board instead of padding my post count in the test forum.

Actually, if I recall correctly, the pump is more effective on GM trannies while in Park. That's why you check your ATF level in P, not in N.

I always thought the difference between Park and nuetral was nothing more than the addition of the Park pawl...as far as the pump is concerned anyways.

Maybe they specify Park for checking fluid to keep people from getting run over by their own car if it's parked on an slight incline?

Honestly if your tranny is so hot it needs a 'cool down' period of 5-10 minutes you should have a big honkin stacked plate cooler on your wish list.

It makes absolutely no difference if you check the fluid in park or neutral on a GM vehicle.

Mine hasn't gotten real hot, but I heard it made a difference on some Dodges, so I was curious about mine.
Also if it did ever get real bad (have a temp gauge)I'd at least have a way to attempt preventing total self destruction of the tranny.

I'm pretty sure that last time I got my tranny flushed the mechanic(who also happens to be good friend of mine) said something about ensuring that my truck was in Park during the flushing process because GM trannies circulate ATF with less restriction while in P.

I'm no tranny guru, but this guy knows his stuff. /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

Yup, me neither. I go by whatever it says on the dipstick...although now I'm kinda curious to hear from a tranny guru.

Why am I partcipating in this thread again? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I wish my SM 465 had 'park'...especially on the trail when I want to get out for a minute and leave the truck running.

Rear disc's are cool, no e-brake isn't quite as cool. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
