I set my idle to 700 and I run the 4 speed. The only time I turn it up is when it get emissions tested, then I turn it up to 1100 to help it pass the idle test.

Thats it, I turn the idle up on the firebird to 1500 rpm so it can barely pass. I mean within points of failing ex: 449 on a 450 standard. Anyways the idle should be about 700 rpms.

My cam isn't so radical that i need to go much higher than 800or 900 to pass. We are only allowed to go as high as 1150 RPM...anything higher and they refuse to test ya.

Yea ours is the same way but its so loud in there that they cant tell, and my motor and 1500 rpms shakes like a normal motor at 700 rpm because of the cam.

LOL...ours get checked by a remote pickup they stick on the hood. I check my tach against theirs.

At 600 RPM my truck fails the idle test but sounds nice with a little lope to it. By 700 the idle smooths out and by 800 I'm in the good emissions wise. For some reason they don't want to put my truck on the 4 wheel dyno with the 36" Swampers on it...[IMG][IMG]

Your luck you dont have to go on the dyno. The make my firebird go on the dyno here. It sucks owning a 32 year old vehicle and have to pass emissions. You dont even have to do it in cali any more. AZ has crappy emissions laws. No remote pickup thogh.

I'd love to see the white knuckled tech brave enough to put it on the 4 wheel dyno...welded rear diff and 36's. It's would prolly jump right off the rollers and out through the back door if they were lucky. Good thing they don't have the sense to insist on smaller tires for emissions testing.[IMG]

It always passed the loaded test on the dyno anyways...I just like messing with them as much as possible.

I've seen morons in the AZ emissions places put a Dodge with a 203(not converted) on a rear wheel dyno, and they don't understand why it wants to jump around on the drum. A while back my friend had a Wagoneer with the quadra-trac, and some moron put it on the rear wheel dyno. It had a pretty good 360 in it and he floored it. I blew part through the side of the tcase. It was totally destoyed. They had to buy him a new tcase.

My Chevy isn't broken, its just out of gas.

Well here they just installed dyno rollers for full time 4x4's...the rear roller is stationary and they adjust the front rollers to match wheelbase. The stupid part is even if you have a part time capable 4x4 they still insist on sticking your truck on the 2 axle dyno. Problem is they only have one so the line-up is usually stupid long![IMG] I swore up and down if they insisted on putting my truck on those rollers I was putting it in 4 HI. I had locked the hubs before leaving the house...
Then when I got there all they did was a modified idle test.[IMG]

Oh well...we'll see what wondrous things happen this year. My emissions test comes up in March.

They dont have 4 wheel dynos here yet.I was thinking of getting some full time hubs, putting it in 4 hi,disconnect the shifter ,and taking it like that so I dont have to do the dyno deal.I dont know if that would fly with them though.

Before they got the fancy dyno's here they'd just do a modified idle test on anything Jeep or AWD. Now everyone has to run on the dyno's...unless you show up with 36" Swampers...[IMG]
