If a 4x4 Blazer is a K5, is a 4x2 Blazer a C5?

Someone just asked this on the Garage forum, and that made me curious. Being from Michigan I had never even seen a 2wd Blazer (non-S10) until I moved to SoCal./forums/images/icons/tongue.gif So following the traditional GM scheme, that would make a 2wd Blazer a C5, right?

Or did they do like the General is famous for and bend the rules?/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

    No, ALL Jimmy/Blazers are K5

All Jimmy/Blazers are designated K5. Both 4x4 and 4x2. There is no such thing as a C5.

Wrong there Cap- 4X2's are designated as C5 or 10, just checked the factory service manual for the Vin Code Numbering system. As for the Vehicle title or registration, depending on the state you live in, some are called station wagons or utility vehicle.

ALL Blazers were designated K5's. I used to have a 1980 Blazer 2 wheel drive. It was a K5. Had K5 emblems, and said K5 Blazer on the title and insurance papers. I even still have the owners manual out of it, says K5 Blazer. Parents owned it since it was brand new so theres no way anything got changed. I wondered about this too when I started driving it because I knew the K series meant 4x4, C meant 4x2, but I researched it and I guess this didnt apply to Blazers/Jimmys.

I have a 1975 2wd Blazer and it is designated a K5 per the original emblems. I have the 1975 Chevy brochures that designated the 2wd as C10 and the 4wd as K10....go figure. It looks the brochure shows K5 emblems in the pictures. I don't know that you will get two answers that are the same due to Chevy not being consistent with how they designated it. All I can tell you is mine is a K5 per the factory emblems.

I'm putting in my support for the C5 side. Everything i've seen regarding blazers says K5(4x4) and C5(4x2). Plus, it only makes sense, since all other chevy trucks followed the C-K name designation.

Here's the kicker, though. On my Blazer, the title and registration say "CK10" for the model name. A'int that weird? Of course, the BMV makes mistakes. My GMC S-15's reg. says "S14." Go figure.

What I think is weird is my registration calls my Jimmy a van!

I don't think the registration means jack. All the registration show's is what some insurance peon thought it 'should' be. Mine is technically a 2 dr station wagon...doesn't say K5 or C5 or anything on it.

I'd lean towards there never being a 'C5" from GM. Ever see a C5 emblem? I've seen plenty of K5 emblems on 2 wd Blazers...

The K5 designation doesn't fit any other rules of description either. Technically GM should have called it a K10. K5 is more like a name rather than a designation...

Ok I'll throw my hat in...my 2WD '74 GMC Jimmy says "LL" for body style on the Texas title....??? The name on the side just said "Jimmy" with "Sierra" on the rear quarter. The new Corvette is designated "C5".

Emblems don't mean jack either. The big block 400 is actually a 402. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that there are both out there.

"C" stands for Conventional Cab 2 Wheel Drive
"K" stands for Conventional Cab 4 Wheel Drive

and when your talking about the S-10's and S-15's
"S" stands for Small Conventional Cab 2 Wheel Drive
"T" stands for Small Conventional Cab 4 Wheel Drive
    but you never hear a S-10 4x4 called a T-10

Just remember to let you insurance agent know that it is a 4x2 or a 4x4 when geting insurance. This is important to get the insurance you'll need for your vehical.

I am glad you posted that. I was just telling my friend that the other day. He owns a T-10 and was saying it was a S-10 but its 4x4, I have got to print this out and show him! I have this thing about people challenging me, because, well, D@MN IT, I HAVE ALWAYS GOT TO BE RIGHT, AND HAVE THE LAST WORD!!!

C-5 is 2 wheel drive and K-5 is 4 wheel drive.
