I realize this is almost a rhetorical question, but I like hearing the input from you guys. Anyway, I have a grand and want either a) A winch b) new gears front and rear, detroit c-locker rear and No-Slip in front(may need more than a grand, huh?) c) NP241 SYE and new rear CV shaft to eliminate hellish vibration from my 6" suspension lift(would have some left for rock slider nerfs and soft top maybe), or d) scour junkyards for 14bff rear and 8 lug conversion for front 10 bolt? I am leaning towards a new winch. If I spend all that on lockers and gears, I may run across a great D60/14BFF deal and end up losing out in the end. And if I switch to 3/4 or one ton axles setup the SYE kit will have to be refabbed again. Anyway, penny for your thoughts.

You should invest the $1000 in my Blazer! Seriously though, I'd go axle scrounging - You should be able to slip in a 14FF and 8 lug conversion, and still have a good chunk of goodie money leftover.

    Dos mas Tecates!!!

you do new axle shafts you also need new wheel's / tires so my choice would be the t-case fix and the cv shaft...

I would buy a new washer and dryer for my house. Other than that. A soft top( kayline) and a nice dinner for the woman.

He's earning bonus points for use later on. See you might have the cash now to spend on your rig. But if you drop some on the woman she'll in return reward him with more cash to buy more toys. So many he can get axles and the winch at the same time! Least that's how it would work with me.... of course when asked what I want for anything everyone knows buy me parts of gimme cash so I can buy parts! I am crazy! Oh yeah if it were me I'd use it to build a roll cage! [IMG]

How can I miss you if you won't go away? [IMG]

Dude no one has a clue as to how supportive this little girl has been over the past three months. I guess I am scoring points but then it could be a little payback for her helping hand. The washer and dryer in my house are pretty much toast anyway so they are on the priority list anyway.

Well, I can't honestly say that I understand ALL of those options.....but from a strictly logical perspective, I would look at what the "Final Result" is that you are trying to achieve. You have to have a plan for what you ultimately want this truck to be....otherwise you are destined to change directions, spend money in silly places, etc.

If your "Final Plan" includes 1-Ton running gear....then don't spend any more time or money on the axles you have now, it's just money that will be thrown away later (or at the very least, you'll only be getting pennies on the dollar when you sell it to someone else!) The things that seem to be 'safe' puchases are the winch, softtop, and sliders. As long as those are part of what is ultimately desired for your K5, it will be money well spent!!

Believe me, I know the feeling about money trying to burn a hole in my pocket when I have it.....and about how hard it is to save for a "big dollar" purchase. Sometimes it seems like you will NEVER get the money saved, and it's almost useless to try. But, eat enough Mac&Cheese or Top Ramen Noodles, and eventually the money will be there!!!! [IMG]

ok guy's... first of Steph's got a distorted view (kind of a diamond in the ruff...) cuz she's actually a female that would like k5 parts! not all of us are as fortunate to have such a woman in our lives... LOL (but I'm fortunate in different ways, cuz I found one that will actually put up with me and that's not normal! LOL)

anyway yea it is alway's good to make browny points!

I'm gonna say 3/4 ton axles...you'll have enough left over for some 8 lug 15" rims too. I'd rather spend my money on soemthing i can use every time I go wheeling...and lets face it the winch isn't gonna get used as much as the axles.

I would not spend it on my Blazer. I would save it, and hopefully not have to spend it on the Blazer. as it is, I am spending $1800 on it this week for a tranny and tires, so it should (better) be happy for a while

$1,000? Amazing coincidence, because I've come across a remarkable investment opportunity that requires only $1,000 to start! It's called Starbukk's, perhaps you have heard of it???

I'd lean towards axles, but if ya get a winch, you can pull yourself out of all of the places that your stock axles and gears can't get you out of.
