I\'m Not Drunk!

hey there all,
i've got a weird steering problem, sometimes (becoming more common) when i make a turn either way it seems to stick to that side, then because i have to correct the sticking i'm turning the wheel farther to the other side, sometime it just holds there pulling hard to that side until i turn the other direction. but at times while i'm holding the wheel to correct it just pops back and b/c i was holding the wheel to the other side i start to look like a drunk wobbling in the lane!.....fluid is fine, all lubed up, any help?

check your steering stabilizer, if its bent the piston can get stuck by the dent. Had this happen in CO. on a rock. Also make sure that your powersteering pump is good and belt is tight.

If you feel a lumpieness in the steering wheel it might me from the gear lash in the steering box being too tight (the adjuster on top of the box).

Sounds familiar, my jimmy does the same thing. I havent found the culprit yet but what i did do was to lock the hubs when im driving. the truck tracks straight as an arrow now and it doesnt wander. of course i drive in 2 hi on the street. i dont have a steering stabilizer either. I've replaced the drag link assembly and will do the tie rod ends and ball joints. I also have a spare steering box in case thats the problem. good luck.

HAYDUKE!!!!!! CHECK YOUR STEERING BOX NOW! Mine did that and it was the steering box hanging onto the frame by two loose bolts. The other two were completely gone!

That jeep thing? Yah I understand it....... Like my Blazer? http://community.webshots.com/user/blazerk5

I had this problem and it turned out to be the steering box.It seemed to have some sort of internal leakage issues.I instaled a new box to fix it.

Re: I\'m Not Drunk! (Update)

ok, i checked the box and it's on there tight, no leaks either, stablizer is fine. i tried locking the front (i have warn prems.) and that did the trick, drove straight as an arrow and the steering was way tighter than it's ever been, what are the downfalls to driving on the road in 2hi w/ the front hubs locked?
but here's the kicker, i unlocked both hubs after driving with them locked for two days and the steering problem is GONE! no probs whatsoever for three days now, yet another GM gremlin?
thanks!
peace.

Just an idea... one of your hubs was stuck engaged before but you diden't know it. After you drove it around alitle and turned them off they both came disengaged like they where suposed to. Maybe just a question of cleaning/greasing upp the manual hubs again?

may have needed to lube your wheel bearings a bit better. and that will do it.

for those of you who dont know you should be driving for a day with your hubs locked. to lube everything up. and also for a short bit once a month in 4wd to lube even more up.

You just need to go wheeling at least once a month. I go twice a week. Everything stays nice and lubed that way.
