Went to weld up a carrier tonight to lincoln lock a Toyota axle for a trip this weekend. Cleaned it out the best I could with carb and brake cleaner, put air to it and let it sit so that I wouldn't start a fire with the welder. Started in on it and the beads just sucked donkey balls. I figured I was just burning off whatever was left in there since the longer I was welding, the better they looked (but still not up to par). I was mostly done when I went to fiddle with the welder settings because the carrier and gears were so hot, glanced at the gas regulator, and realized: 1. I'm a moron. 2. I'm an idjit. 3. I shouldn't be allowed to breed. 4. I forgot to turn on the gas. 5. I just turned a Toyota third member into a 50 pound piece of scrap because of contaminated welds.
