I\'m pissed at GM\'s hardtop design on my 90 Jimmy!!!!

On K5's before 90 I think, the rear seat had a lap belt. That means the passengers back there would at least stay in the vehicle. HOWEVER, on my 90, they thought that it would be a good idea to mount the seat belt assembly to the top itself. Given, it is a 3 point belt, but it not only endangers the lives of passengers with the top on, but it doesn't give them a chance to survive when the top is off. The only person in the back seat that would have it best is the mofo riding b!tch in the middle. I'm kinda pissed that GM overlooked this design flaw. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

Actually I don't think GM had a choise in the matter. I think it was some political bs that caused the change. It was also the first year with the abs and vss.

Thats prolly why they went to the security torx bolts back there too, to discourage people from pulling the top off and leaving the back seat without belts. It is a pretty dumb design so I'm sure it has to do with DOT regulations.

I ended up cutting the belt out of the box so all three passengers for the rear seat have a lap belt. I know ford used the smart design and kept the seat belt assembly on the floor in the broncos all the way up to '96. Someone at GM must have folded.

I'll second that. GM didn't seem to want anyone to take the top off, b/t the seat belts, the torx bolts, and the hidden undernearth bolt.

I just took the belts off the top when I wanted to take the top off. It only took a few extra minutes.

I removed those and installed lap belts, that I bought at the auto parts store. Our family fills the Blazer right up so not having belts in the back is not an option!
