    I\'M STRANDED>>>NEED HELP!!

My U-Joint broke last night on the 83'...The one where the rear shaft meets the transfer case yoke, not the differential. So I took, it out. Here's the problem.....These are the U-joints where the clips are on the inside, the half circles. Anyway, where the yoke and driveshaft meet, there are no bolts....It's all solid on all four of the ends...You have to pound all four of the caps out. So I do this and all but one cap will not come out...The wierd thing is that is moves up and down and side to side a little, but won't come out either way. I've done many joints before but this is crazy...I know this is a factory Spicer cap....Are they twisted in or something??? They clips came out, so it should too...It's going to be towed soon...Help me..thanks

It's probably been epoxied in at the factory. Try taking to it with the torch and knocking it out.

I'm so poor I can't even pay attention [IMG]

Torch. Be careful...when them caps get hot they fly. I recently saw one fly....right at my face and I was a good 10+ ft away.

Did you try to force it out with a vice and a socket or something? The u-joint actually out? Then you have 2 directions you can push the cap.

The factory ones are the hardest to get out. B/c they're so old/been on for so long. Believe me, I know.
You need to press it out. that's even kinda hard. But a press is your best bet.

You said the u-joint was the factory one's right? Well anyway
I belive that the factory ones have some plastic stuff on the side of shaft that holds the u-joint cap in place. My 83,does I can see something like that giving you fits if thats the case maybe some heat or small drill bit will work.
Just my my .02 worth hope it help's

Put the heat to her! You need to weaken the plastic retainer the comes from the factory in order to remove it. Good luck.

Why do people keep calling it a Bronco!!!!! [IMG]
