    I\'m stupid, please help

I'm working on my friends '91 K5 and could use some help. It's leaking ATF around the slip yoke on the rear driveshaft. So I bought a new seal, but I can't get the old seal out. I bent up the edges with a screwdriver, but it still won't budge. Needle nose plier don't help either. Anyone have any tricks. Its the seal on the very end of the tailshaft of the T-case. Thanks

You can use a 2 or 3 prong bearing puller to get it out. The slide hammer idea is a good one too.

You can use pretty much anything you think will get it out. We had a problem getting the pinion seal out of a cherokee....used one of those brake thingys....they look like big weird forecepts. Like the others said just try no to chew up your metal

I think you can just unbolt the extension housing off the t-case, and punch it out from the inside.

Actually, the right way is to use a seal puller. You can get one at most hardware and automotive stores for less than eight bucks. If you don't want to spend the eight bucks to do it right you could drive a screwdriver into the outer ring of the seal itself and work it out. I've replaced all the seals in the t-case on mine when I rebuilt the case and a seal puller is cheap and works right the first time.

Watch out for the oil galley inside. It looks like a rod bearing, if you chew it up the slip joint won't get lubed and you'll trash it. good luck
