Well I installed my flowmaster 40 series two chamber. I just would like to say that it is very quiet. With a single exhaust and a GM cat, you can barely hear it. It does produce a nice sound on accelleration. I just wanted to post this because when i was considering buying this muffler I could never get good info on how they sound, and I didn't want others deprived like me. If you're worried the 40 series will be too loud...DON'T BE.

I installed a pair of 40s on my Jeep CJ7 with the 401 engine...REALLY LOUD!!! Wife hates it, I love it!!! I guess it depends on if you gotta go thru a cat first. I don't, thus that's probably why its so loud!!

The cat, especially the factory ones, make a very good muffler. You could run without a muffler behind it, and I think it would be quieter than a 2 chamber Flowmaster without a cat.

Prob. it. Factory 3" with a 3" in and out cat. Beats the hell out of the factory muffler that was on there. You have no doubts when the truck is running now. Funny thing is, my wife LOVES the way it sounds now. COME AWN!!!! does it get any better. Well, if you'd hurry up on that 60, or did fed-ex lose it.

I tell ya, that board is corupting me. I'm turning a cherry 89 blazer into a one-off sawzall nightmare.

The 40 behind a cat sounds DAMN good. I bet she'll never know. :)

Deprived of information? Hows that? I have 40 series Flowmasters, and I've replied to at least 3 different posts asking about how they sound. Anyways, yea the cat makes all the difference in the world. Mine are lots louder than you describe.

Hey Chaka. If I could change anything about the sound of my exhaust it would be absolutely nothing. The mild 350 doesn't hurt either. lol Anyways its: Manifolds, 2.25 pipe, 2.25 inch 2 chamber Flowmasters, and tailpipes. Its got an awesome hollow sound that only the Flowmasters can make. Really strong idle, but not nearly as deafening as glasspacks when you step on it. If you like something loud and have duals, GET 'EM!!! I haven't even bothered to put a stereo back in it yet...cruising with the windows down, admiring the Flowmasters is all the music I need.

Go for the 40s. Once you install them you'll be glad. They are really not loud. I'm running dual 2.5" on mine with no cats. You only go loud when you floor it. You even get to set off a few car alarms, but if you go easy on the foot, they'll be very quiet. You could even say that they can show your personality exactly the way you want them to.[IMG]
