You might want to post this on the main messageboard. More people could see it and respond [IMG] Almost everyone on this board have the same opinion on those tires. They suck!

I'll second that. They look cool, but dont work worth a poo off-road.

I have the 35" version. In deep mud there a no-go. They get full and turn to slicks. No experiance on rocks, but on loose ground, sand and packed dirt there perfect. Guys on swampers or what ever overhere have alot more trouble. So it really depends on what you do. There is no such thing as a do-it-all tire.

The only drawback with my TSL's is road manners, I have wheeled packed dirt, rocks, sand and mud with them and they excel at all of it...thats how they got their reputation. All I do is drop them down to about 10 psi and its point and shoot[IMG]
As far as comparing them goes I heard the Thornbirds also suck on the road...

I was running a stock K5 on a trail with afew guys about a year ago. I had stock 31's A/t from sears and this other guy had new Thornbirds in 31's. He got stuck every place we went, even in really easy stuff that my half bald A/T would do in two wheel drive. He couldn't make it up hills, in mud and forget about snow. They just sucked! He purchased them because he thought they would be Quieter on the road. They are just as noisy as my 36 Swamper SX's and don't look as cool. I don't think any one should by them unless your wheeling on hard packed dirt. And then just maby.

I had a set under my old toyota...they wore out in 20K miles. Sucked in mud, sucked on muddy trails, did decent on dry trails, but these aren't for the off road four wheeler, they're for driving on and off the trailer to the display booth.

to tell you the truth, i hate hearing bad things about these tires, cause i love 'em....i aint one to worry about what other people think of my rig, but it would eat me alive to have these and just "look" like an off-roader, and know that in the back of my mind, everybody else thought i was a poser!!! at least all the little kids and people who dont know any better would drool over them!! i prefer function over cosmetics though!

just my .02-cause i have considered getting them on more than one occasion

I met a guy who runs Thornbirds on his K5 (not a CoK5 member) and he loved them. He thought the worked fairly good in the mud & snow considering the footprint and the void ratio. They "look" gnarly enough, I still don't know; I'ld hate to spend all that money on Swampers to have the tread melt away. I do notice that this board in particular carries ALOT of bad opinions on the Thorns, 'wonder why?

Because I've had thorns and I've had SX's. The SX's lasted longer, worked better, were louder sure, but they worked better on and off road by far. I bet the guy that was happy with them off road has never owned a real swamper. My .02. I just would hate to see you buy something you'll hate. IMO, they're even more useless than a M/T Baja Belted and that's saying a lot!

You mean the M/T Baja Belted is bad too? Don't know anyone who's had them there too expensive.

I picked up a set of mickeys for my last truck used for $200. The last owner had run them for 10K on a samurai and pulled them when he sold it. Ok samurais are lightweight and the tires had very little wear so I took them and mounted them. Granted they were much better than the 4 bald mismatched tires I had on there and they TORE IT UP in the sand. Weren't much good for sloppy mud though although they will air down almost flat and still hold a bead. Here's a pic of both of my previous toys. No pics of the SX's tho.
