a week or so ago, I started talking with a dude while waiting in line at a subway restaraunt near Pittsburgh. Turns out, he relocated to Pittsburgh from Sweden about 6 months ago..

I asked him how he liked the US, and he said that he was suprised by, and liked the fact the taxes were so low here, as compared to his homeland and the rest of the EU.
I said, " yep, it's a lot cheaper to live here in the US, and we as citizens have more freedom and get to keep more of our money and not give as much of it to the gov't as the europeans have to, in order to support the socialist programs that are bankrupting those countries".

With that, he gives me a dirty look, and tells me that while the US has lower taxes, at least college and medical care are free to the citizens where he lived.. he then got his food order and left me shaking my head. He's so conditioned to getting the handout that he didn't make the connection that the services he thought were "free" were in fact paid for by the exorbitant taxes taken from the citizens. Of course, I've seen surveys that indicate a percentage of americans think that the gov't has its own supply of money, so this stupidity is worldwide in scope.

These are mental midgets that Kerry wants us to have the approval of and mold our society to emulate. Kerry, Kucinich and their ilk are the first ones to crucify Bush if gasoline hits almost two bucks a gallon, but when gas prices aren't making headlines, they want gas to be almost 5 bucks a gallon so we're taxed on a par with the european union.

The democratic party has been in the grip of the leftists and socailists since the stalin lovers had no place to call home at the end of WWII. They aren't about helping the working man, or making health care affordable for all. What they are about is controlling every industry, and regulating and taxing the citizens to death, all the while doing it for "the common good".

If ya want to put Kerry in office, go ahead, it's a free country. I just don't want to hear any whining when nothing in your life changes, but you get more taxes to pay, and a country that's under the boot of europe and the UN.

    gerald fords only great quote:

"a government large enough to give you everything you want, is a government large enough to take everything you have."

great post. There isn't absolutely ANYTHING that ANYONE gets from the government for "free"... you paid for it, and you almost certainly paid a LOT more than whatever you got was worth.

... and quite a bit below par compared to the quality of medical care we receive in the USA. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

I always get a kick out of folks who point to Canada for an example of socialized medicine. Anybody who has done even a modicum of research finds that their system is a dismal failure. But, you still have the pie in the sky dreamers that engage in wishful thinking to the extreme. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif Socialized systems benefit the small minority of do nothings in society who don't pay taxes anyway and as a result love socialism. Problem is, they enjoy it on the backs of the hard working majority.
