There was an article in today's Longmont Times Call newspaper regarding a woman who is paid/teaches people and companies to find information on the net. She bypasses the standard search engines, here are a few tricks she mentions.

To use search engines edited by people, not spiders:

    http://directory.google.com
    http://dir.yahoo.com

    To open US Government portals:

    www.firstgov.gov
    www.gpoaccess.gov/index.html

To enhance or edit the open directory:

    http://dmoz.org
    http://en.wikipedia.org

    To discover domain name ownership:

    http://allwhois.com
    http://www.whois.sc

To find information via free magazines:

    http://magportal.com

    Look yourself up on google??

Have you ever looked up your own name on google??--or your web adress!!--you might be suprised at what comes up when you try it!--seems like all your posts on some websites are on google too,all you need is to type in a few key words, and there it is! --guess I'll have to watch what I'm posting now--brother google and friends are listening--sshhhhh....

Typed my name into google once. Found out I have a "name twin" in Austin who is an artist. Pulled up his email once. His response was "you're the race car guy, right?"
Try typing your phone number into google. use hyphens, not periods.

    Kinda scary huh?

Its a bit disconcerting to see how much info is displayed by just typing in your internet adress or phone number isn't it?... :screwy:

I have several "name twins"too!--one is a senator(who I met once!--used to be a MA state senator-he didnt believe I had the same name til I showed him my licence!)--a clothing store tycoon,a GMC/Honda dealer! :D -an author, and many others...too bad I'm not related!!...
