seem like everyone here seems to be caught up in the all the Horsepower hoop-lah, lately?
I thought we were here mostly to build wheelin trucks. I understand that you may wanna have a muscle truck but that would seem to fit better in the 2 wheel drive blazer department. Dont get me wrong HP is good. But with the old heavy beasts that we are so infatuated with really need to be more reliable and capable to get the mass moving rather than to see how much HP we can get out of them. HP is what you use after you get rolling. Personally I dont like the idea of hauling booty in something thats going to be damn near impossible to stop from the speed and the massive amount of weight.

    These are just my pennies!!!!

What is and what should never be....

"S why I plan on keeping the diesel in the blazer I'm gonna get stock. It moves the thing, so I can deal with being slow. If I find I can't make it up some hills, I'll put in lower gears. I don't have any need up here to do dune running, and I'm not building a full-on bogger, so I'll manage with my 150 hp.

So your saying I should take off my CK5 decal?

    J/K [IMG]

It's all about TORQUE baby. But you tend to get more HP with it.

Isn't the adage something like "Horsepower sells, Torque is what does the work"?

Personally, the more TORQUE you can get out of a motor destined for our trucks, for the same or less gas you dump in, you are on the right path. It's nice to talk about HP, but torque is where its at for most of our trucks....

What always seems to work for me is the ol saying .
"build for torque and horsepower will take care of it self".

Hey Brandon...just remember one thing. "Nothing Exceeds Like Excess!"

That applies to motors as well as axles...

If you use your rig for both on road and off road use, there is a compromise, or a balance between HP and Torque. I guess it is what makes it so cool, is that we can find our own balance.

Nothing bugs me more than paying a butt load for gas and having a truck that won't even get out of it's own way. [IMG]

Torque is what I look for. In my opinon, you can get all you want from a small block(but that's another can o' worms). You start getting too much and you'll start tearing stuff up when on the rocks, but you want to be able to go over the rocks too [IMG].

It's been lovely, but I have to scream now.

I get a lot of that too. When I tell someone about my 454, they immediately ask, "what's wrong with the 350?"

NOTHING, allright! I just want more power.

I know it goes against all "normal" people's logic, especially with these gas prices, but I really like that feeling of torque.

Yup. Gotta love the diesels. Lots o' torque, and good mileage to boot!

Of course, I think my diesel's getting a little weak. 200K on the original engine, it's time for some freshening up! Definately need a new/better cam in this thing.
