Could a 700R4 last 186,000 miles without being rebuilt in my truck?? I bought this thing in September and I don't know if the tranny has been rebuilt. Also, the U-joints are the ORIGINALS! Except for the front driveshaft joints.

Most definately! How do you know it has a shift kit in it and not know if its been rebuilt unless you had it installed? If the previous owner did that I bet it was during a rebuild. Still very likely could be the original I have seen them last 200,000+ under good care conditions

Sure it can. But a painted torque converter or transmission pan/case will typically indicate a rebuild.

Why insist on counting when the ring gear has the tooth counts stamped in?

I would bet it could last that long, mine has 152000 miles on it and it's totally fine.

I installed the shift kit. Nothing is painted on it. The guy I took my tranny to didn't paint anything, he just cleaned it off. If the Torque Converter was painted, all you could really say is it has a new one. I just want to know because I'm going to be taking this thing on a trip to Colorado next summer while towing a 1,000 trailer and 88 Suzuki Samurai for rock-crawling tagging along on it.
