Is the front shaft supposed to move when I\'m driving???

Hey guys is the front drive shaft supposed to move when I'm driving, not off-roading but on the street just regular driving, I just installed the rear shaft back on there and I noticed that the drive shaft in the front was also moving but only when i'm going over 10 mph is this normal??? I did put the transfer case in neutral but it still moves is this normal or is something wrong with the transfer case thanks guys.

If you have a np203 then it will, unless you have a part time conversion, then it shouldn't, but if you forget to unlock you hubs(assuming you have manuals) it'll turn your sahft.

Yea figured so just thought i'd put that in there. If it is a 203 and it turns i'd have to say not part time conversion.

    ¡Hey tocayo!

¿Qué dice en la palanca del transfer case? If it's LO LOC-LO-N-HI-HI LOC, then it's a NP203 full time transfer case, and should have no hubs at all. The only reason someone would install manual hubs is if they installed a part time kit. If that's the case then you are probably running in 4wd mode with the manual hubs unlocked, which would make your front driveshaft turn. You should then find out which part time kit you have installed and maybe someone will tell you in which position your lever should be in the 2wd position.

If it were an unconverted NP203 and you have manual locking hubs (which makes no sense), and you unlock the hubs, the front driveshaft would spin but the Blazer wouldn't move.

Or it may be as simple as the front driveshaft being actually turned by small friction between the parts even if you are in 2wd and everything's fine.

    Buena suerte

I have a 70 k5 with a np205 t-case and d44 axle. My front driveshaft turns slowly while i go down the road(even in 2 wheel drive). I have noticed some other blazers that do this too.

Its not uncomon. What is happening is there is a fluid or grease drive going on. The fluid in the case may be causing enough drag to rotate the front output or it could be coming from some drag at the locking hubs. If your sure you have a part time 203 then don't worry about it. Since it doesn't happen from a dead stop (comment about 10mph) then I would guess that it is converted.

To the rest...he gave details...concider them before giving weird advice like "you may not be converted".

Mine will also rotae slowly going down the road.
On road trips after it all heats up the rotation stops all to gether.
I can see the front drive shaft thru the xfer case shifter boot.
I think its a good thing that it turns cuz just means all is well and no binding!!

Re: Is the front shaft supposed to move when I\'m driving???

you didnt really say how fast the shaft was spinning. If it seems to be turning at the full speed of the rest of the driveline, then something is engaged. Crawl under your truck and grab that driveshaft and try to turn it. Im not sure about a 203, but with a 205 it should turn freely. Unless the hubs are locked, or the t-case is engaged. If it doesnt turn, you can isolate which end is engaged by jacking the front tires off the ground and turning them. If they turn, the hubs are engaged, if they wont turn, the case is in 4wd.
If the shaft does turn freely when you crawl under, dont worry about it. Mine does that all the time, but I can reach thru the floor and stop it very easily which means nothing is engaged.

    Good Luck
    Mike

Hey guys I dont really know for sure what t-case I have I've only had the truck for about 3 months or so and I really havent been paying alot of attention to the t-case or if I have a part time kit which now I'm thinking that I might, my friend has a 73 also with the original t-case but now I remember that he has no hubs on his rig, so I should have a part time kit which one I dont know, how do I find out?

How do I find out what kind of part time kit I have I dont really know anything about those kits but like blazer79 said I have to find out to see in which position my lever should be in so I wont drive in 4x4 all the time.

    keep blazin !!!
