is there a differnce in the way they look depending on what brakes you have
A friend of mine converted his drum brake front to disc, and he had to get a couple knuckles from me off a '74 D44 front with disc brakes. He said the backing plates wouldnt bolt up properly on the his old drum knuckles.
I had a '67 D44 closed knuckle front with drum brakes, and that was completely different.
Heres a pic of the older Dana 44 with drum brakes.
That's the closed knuckle variety which can not be converted to disc. A 1970 axle will have drums in front with open knuckles and can be converted to disc.
from what im told the knuckles with drum brakes have the bolt holes for the spindle indexed differently, causing the caliper to be rotated too much
