are the pans different? anyone have a link to pics or pan diagrams?
A 4L60E is nothing more than a later version 700R4. The rear of the case uses only 4 bolts to retain it to the adapter whereas the 4L80 is nothing more than a TH400 with overdrive which uses 6 bolts to retain it to the adapter.
Well...seeing as how the 4l60e is a 700r4 electronic version....the pan should be a rectangle.
And, the 4l80e pan, being a 400, should be a really screwed-up, un-describable shape.

My 4L80 is mostly rectangle with the corners knocked off. They dont look like a TH400 pan.

Summitracing listed it only as a pan for the TH400 - sorry, I guess I looked at it and thought...hmmmm, if it's a 400 pan, than it must be a 4l80e pan too. SORRY.
Maybe it is just late I will take a pic of it tomorrow for you.
later 4l60e(98+ I think) use an unboltable belhousing and the round six bolt pattern(same as 4l80e)
