A friend of mine works as a mechanic for his dads business and asked me if I wanted to buy an '89 Sub with a bad motor. I went up to check it out.

Turns out to be a 3/4 ton Silverado, LOADED with everything, rear A/C, 3rd seat missing, totally rust and dent free, with barn doors, 5.7 with a 400 tranny, 10 bolt and 14SF, don't know the ratios yet, for $750.

What do you think? The interior is spotless. The seats are perfect, no tears, nothing. Everything is there, nothing missing. Just the motor locked up, thats all.

I was figuring buy it, install a brand new crate 350 and use it for a daily driver/tow truck.

May even lift it and run around 35's.

Good deal or not? The Sub is charcoal in color as is the interior.

Here is one pic of the Sub. I took several pics and tried to download them but was unsucessful because the pics were too big. I tried to download them to my webshots.com pages and they won't let me because I've maxed out my "10 free albums". /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I will clean up my webshots.com pages and try to get the pics up tomorrown.

Anyways, here is one pic...kind of crappy though. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I work as a mechanic, I just bought a new GM 350 3yr/50,000 mile motor for a customer with our cost about roughly 1850. Have fun with the burb! Does that have the full float rear or semi float? /forums/images/graemlins/burb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Oh c'mon man. You get a deal like that and you wanna put a 350 in it!??!?! Put a 454 in that biatch. Since you got such a great deal (REALLY GREAT DEAL /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif) you should have plenty of dough left over for the Rat right? I just think a Burb of that stature and for that purpose "needs" a 454

Nah, wanna keep it SBC so I can take it anywhere I need to go, especially to tow a trailer.

BTW, its an '89, which is the TBI. I don't know if the computer/harnesses, etc. need to be swapped for a BBC swap. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Because the 4L80 is a 400 with overdrive.

Re: Is this a good deal for a Sub?

I'm hoping to get it, too! My wife is even excited because she knows I've been looking for a Sub for some time, too. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif The way she see's it, the sooner we get one, the sooner I can quit bugging her into trading her car for one. At least she can still keep her car now. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I will find out at lunch time what happens. I'm running straight up to the shop to pay my friend. Hoping he has the title ready so I can tow it home this afternoon. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: Is this a good deal for a Sub?

Sounds like one hellafied deal. I'd probley stay small block also, but I'd go with either a 383 stroker, or a 400. I do belive GM now sells a 383 create motor.
