Maybe he's developed an allergy? I think you can give him regular old Benedryl, but I would call the vet first :dunno:

what do you feed him ????

may sound crazy,,but my dogs used to itch and scratch all the time.....
My vet had us change what we fed them to IAM'S lamb and rice meal and the itching went away....and thier coats are nice and healthy...just a thought...

I had a Dobe that used to have those dry skin problems, we would put about 1/2 cup vegetable oil in hot water, and put it on the food. Also used some fish oil.

I'm gonna have to second those choices. Works wonders on some dogs. You get any new furniture or anything in the house?

It could also be the weather. You guys haven't had a regular winter up there this year.

Hey Bogger, a little more research with dog owners at work revealed:

Omega 3; 1-2 pills a day depending on size of dog. Also helps reduce hairloss

Are mites a possibility: If so, some disinfecting shampoo, and bug bomb the house. Also "Episoothe" shampoo to help with dryness

And a guy from a place that takes unwanted pets suggested talking with your local humane shelter to see if they might have any suggestions.

    Good luck, Zim
