I was on my blackberry replying to an email in stop and go traffic... In one of the "Go" periods, I tried to finish a sentence, then looked up to find traffic was stopped. Usually I'd only type during the stops, not the gos...

I hit the brake and saw I couldn't avoid a hit, so swung the wheel to the open space next to me, bounced the left front wheel onto the divider curb, then swung back before going into oncoming traffic, and impaled my front bumper on her corner.
Her minivan was pretty good comparatively. Just a scratched and cracked bumper cover. My front bumper right side was pushed almost into my right front tire. I drove it to a parking lot to do the info exchange with her, then after her and the police left, I drove it up to one of those little concrete filled vertical pipes that are supposed to prevent structure damage to a building, and pushed the left side bumper back in. That gave me enough right-side tire clearance to drive it to a work site, where I put a hook on the bumper and used a piling and reverse to pull the bumper further out. If it didn't have a huge dent in the middle, it would look pretty normal.

So the pregnant lady insisted she was fine. I hope so. She was riding on lots of pillows, so I'm sure she is.
My insurance says they'll cover any damage on her vehicle, but I don't have collision, so I'm out. Nobody's fault but mine, so I'm not complaining.

So the "I'm a better driver, it won't happen to me" has started to dissipate for a while at least. I'll be waiting til I pull over to finish emails from now on...

I almost would have rather that than hit a pregnant lady... Although it would be bad to be down two vehicles in my family...

The week after I flopped my Burb, my wife destroyed her DD. It does suck to have to deal with insurance companies and wrecked vehicles. But, as long as everyone is alright, its only sheet metal and $$, both of which can be replaced.

    Yup.

This isn't pirate. If you want to act like an ass here, atleast add a smiley at the end of your smartass, unprovoked comments.

glad you are ok man... and that no one had to die for you to learn a lesson about paying attention while driving...

No one in the right mind would be oblivious while patrolling a street in Baghdad... and that street is almost certainly safer than an American highway...

I was not being a smart ass, i was disappointed that ratch would do something like that, especially right after making a post about crappy drivers.

I got what you were saying. I forgot I just made a griping thread about drivers... This was so stupid and cocky, I'm ready to take my knocks (or lumps??)...

I went the whole day today without even looking at the blackberry while driving... I didn't even look at it to answer it when the phone rang...
