It\'s alive! & What exhausts should I get?

Well guys, my beast is finally mobile! The TH-350 has been rebuilt (with a shift kit). It was so exciting to actually drive the thing at last. For those that don't know, I have a '78 K5 which had a dead transmission when I bought it.

The truck is currently at the local garage having some work done to make it ready for the road, and one thing I have to decide on is what exhausts to get.

What should I go for? I want something decent, stainless steel, maximum power and great sound. When I had the tranny out and one of the exhausts off, the engine sounded awesome, so should I get straight-through pipes? If I do go for straight-through, will I have any problems when I take the truck to California?

When naming suppliers, bear in mind that I'm currently in the UK (where gas is about $7 or $8 per gallon [IMG]).

    Thanks,

    Yendor

Get headers with true duals 2 1/2" pipe back flowmaster 50-series and you'll be set!

This won't fit the criteria for stainless, but I've got the original (1986) 6.2 diesel true duals on my K5 with a 350, and they sound about perfect in my opinion. It's really hard to find exhaust that isn't tinny sounding, too loud, too soft, etc., but GM did really good with these. I bet they are still available from GM if you were so inclined.

For a '78 in California you are supposed to have the factory style catalytic converter. But, most places I've been to for a smog check, don't care if you have dual exhaust with dual converters. If one place won't smog it just take it somewhere else.

    That's because I'm the devil.

get an off road H-Pipe with Borla, or 2 chamber flow masters, this will eliminate having to have a catylit convertor. And I would say 3 inch pipes with 4 inch slanted tips out the back

I got hooker headers w/ true dual exhaust and flow master 40 seriers. sounds awesome, but I should have opted for the 50 series. I'm gonna swap out to 50 series at some point.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

I don't think my truck came with catalytic converters, it was from South Carolina. As far as I know, the current exhausts are the originals - no converters, just mufflers.

Hey Jeff, are you unhappy with the 40 series because they are too loud/obnoxious? Thanks...............

you know how noisy it is on the inside of a blazer anyway, and yes sometimes they are a bit too noisy. I'm not going to do anything until I rhino line the inside, and then if the noise level is a bit too much I'll go to 50 series.

it's not that bad unless it's lugging down on hills or going into a wind. sometimes if you are driving across the bottum of Wyoming you drive into a pretty strong wind.

    I'll let you know.

50-series are a little quieter. [IMG]
