I finally fixed my loose steering wheel column. I took it out and put in a non-tilt column I picked up at the boneyard today. A friend of mine works there and he gave it to me for $50, and it was complete down to the steering box. It only took about 2 hours to pull the old one out and put the new in. I am very pleased with how it went. I'm not the most experienced mechanic but I try to be thourough. I'd like to thank you guys for your excellent post on fixing the loose tilt wheel. Two weeks ago I went through it to find that the tilt ball was totally worn out and the 4 screws that were supposed to be loose were tight as can be. Funny how things go, it took me longer to take the old column apart than to just put in a whole new one.

Yaaaahhhooooooo!!!! no more loose steering column!!!!
