OK reading the descriptions and seeing the pics it sounds like the 8 point kit does not go down to the floor but down to the dash /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif
The 10 point looks like what I want but the side bars I dont want going next to the seat that way so I might move those to make my new seat braces.

As you may have seen Don Scholl has offered a $40 discount till the first of the year. So the 8point cage would be 109.95 (originally 149.95), and the 10 point cage $179 (originally 219.95). With shipping the 8point would be about $170 and the 10point $260 (residental dropoff will be a little higher).

I guess I need to see installed pics /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif (or pics layed out or tacked outside the truck)
If the 8point cage comes down to the floor in the front I would be all over that one.

I would also like to see pics. Do these cages come all pre cut?

From what I hear they are cut long so you can trim to fit... which means you have to buy a knotcher

oh yeah... their site with descriptions

dunno about the s&w kit, but the way the smitty kits are made you dont need a notcher to fit 'em. Any tube that has a notched end has a flat mounting point on the other end... so if you need to trim tube length down, you do it on the flat end.

i forget what the total price was the the smitty kit... you need the roll bar kit and then also the interior tube kit to make it a full cage. I got mine from 4wpw.. if you live near one and can dodge shipping, they are cheaper than the S&W cages. If you have to get it shipped to you... might as well go S&W... arent they offering a discount to CK5'ers right now?

Im sure in webshots there are a few pics of it, though I have never taken any pics of it specifically, and the interior tube portion is yet-to-be installed.

Ultimately this is what I want to end up with
    [IMG]
this bottom section is a seat mount, my 4 point harnesses will hook to it and to the seat bar in the main hoop, I will have a spacer welded in to support the center of those long side to side bars

The only pics of their cage Ive seen on the net are here http://coloradok5.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=garage&Number=878963&fpart=1&PHPSESSID=
I have got the famly kit from them and as soon as I get the rest of my body put together I will start to install it. I will take lots of pics for you guys and let you know how it goes. My kit with the padding was around 400 shipped with the $40 discount. The thing is heavy and shipping was a little more then I thought it would be.

If you are trying to choose between the 8 and 10 point S&W cage you are better off getting the 10 point and installing it as an 8 point. Then when you want you can install the rest. That is what I did. This winter I plan on finishing the cage and probably tie it to the frame. The S&W cages are nice but required some cutting to make it fit the way I wanted it.

Thats a pic of my cage on the other thread. I added the 3/4" gusset tubes myself. Notice, I omitted a few bars - the cage is a work in progress - I still need to traingulate it. I wish they would refine this cage as I stated in the previous thread. We really need some diagonal bracing to keep the cage from collapsing. Notice how wide my A-pillar spread is. My A-pillar bars match the A-pillars perfectly. I opted to not go through the dash beause of the bars needing one more bend to kick them back to the flat part of the floor. Be sure to plate the floor and possibly run some bracing down to your frame or body mount areas. I will be later installing the seat mounts like you show as well as a Watson style console/dash bar setup.

IIRC, price was ~$220 incl. shipping but it's been a while.

That smittybilt bar is nice, is that a complete bolt in or does it require welding?

Also, anyone got a part number for an 88K5?

The bar is bolt-in, the cage addition for the front requires welding.

Thanks, I looked at their website and it lists a BL478 for the bar and BL84 for the interior cage kit.
Do you have to remove the top for the interior tube installation?

Just how much welding is involved (how many connection points) for the cage kit? is it just like 4 main pieces?

6 tube connection points total require welding. There is a across-the-dash spreader bar thing (2), floorplates (2), tubes that run from said floorplates over the door and to the roll bar (2).
