i have an 86 jimmy 305 4x4, sometimes when i put in gear(automatic tran) it makes a god awful banging noise in sync with speed, perhaps it wants to jump into 4wheel? it does this even with tranny in neutral bad t-case? any thoughts please help! madmaxx156@yahoo.com

If it makes noise in neutral, it's most likely the trans since the output shaft shouldn't be spinning, at least not very fast. Check all your linkages first, you could be holding it between gears. Beyond that, I don't have a lot of info for you on this one, maybe someone else does?
    Thanks
