This xmas has got to be the worst one ever. I'm still jobless and the market still doesn't look any better than it did a year ago /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif dispite what the economists are saying. At least last year we were ok, we had some savings to play with for xmas, but this year really bites. Savings has ran out and living off my wifes income just gets up by. But at least we still have a roof over our head....so far /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

    Sorry, just had to vent

i hear ya brother. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif atleast u have experience in ur field though, Im trying to break into a market at entry level...and that sucks especially in my field! about 95% of jobs posted in architecture have the ol "5 years experience minimum" thing goin' on. bad times.

My parents have an auto parts store for sale in Coos Bay, OR. You could be your own boss, live by the sand dunes & over half of the building is my dad's personal shop - build your play toys! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

It wouldn't take a lottery winner - it's Coos Bay, where the cost of living is cheap, and the women are even cheaper! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Where did you apply for a job at?

that sucks man. this xmas in general is going to suck. nothing to do job wise for my Family but my dad will probably be in the hospital over the holiday unless they figure the latest [darn] out. they found an oral bacteria that is making him run a fever off and on. plus he can't be around the tree. so the tree will be in the house til he gets to come home.

I wish someone would somehow make the economy better. I realize it has ups and downs, but it sucks when you want to get started out in life and your only career options are in retail /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif And sure retail is a job, but I would like a job that is not boring, you get to use your brain and it requires actual skills.

firm called Richard P. Turi, Architecture & Planning... its in north bend, but us big city folk figure any 2 lil towns that close together only deserve one name. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif my mom actually lived in coos bay for a year or two back in the early 80s, and my gf likes the idea of living at the coast... so now its just a question of whether or not i make the cut I guess. time will tell...

Be careflull around Coss Bay right now. I know a bunch of people from down there and they are having some problems with the economy. Most of the money is comming in from logging and in the past couple of years a bunch of mills have been shut down due to preasure from tree huggers.

thats when ya start runnin enviro-nazis through the mill. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

at any rate, assuming people live/work in doors there is some room for architects. naturally a booming economy is the best situation, but even in sagging ones some individuals/businesses are looking to build/remodel/expand.

I joined the Army back in the 80's because the job market sucked. I loved it.

The only mill left in Coos Bay was turned into a Casino. They are now the largest employer in the area!

Actually Georgia Pacific still has a good sized mill in CB - under the bridge going towards Eastside.

Jek - I applied for a draftsman postion at Turi's in high school. I remember that he had a hot secretary! - I'm pretty sure that Crow & Clay own the architecture in that town though - (even though Clay passed away this year)

They have offices in Crescent City, CA, Portland, and CB - Steve Crow is a hella nice guy too!

    Good luck anyway...

I'd love to find an Engineering position down there - but there just ain't squat.

You lose your job down there, and you're working at Wal-Mart or Mickey-D's (not that there's anything wrong with that) /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

When I was in high school, the whole water front was mills. Now it's "The Mill Casino". Kinda crazy!
